Qamardeen is a relatively new and modern yet traditionally Arabic inspired four star boutique hotel. A definite advantage of staying at this hotel is its location. Qamardeen is situated in The Old Town precinct of Downtown Burj Dubai with easy access from Sheikh Zayed Road and Doha Road. If you’re a shopaholic then you will find the 10 minute walk from the hotel to the largest shopping mall in the world, The Dubai Mall, well worth it. The beautiful sights of the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, stands tall in the Arabian sky, and can be seen from miles away on any clear day. The observation level of the tower can be accessed via the mall which is surrounded by a huge clear manmade lake, every night the water, sound and light show puts on a spectacular display every half hour to the multitudes of tourists, locals and those who have been shopping or dining at any of the outside restaurants around the water feature. I found myself walking back to the hotel from the mall most nights around 11.30pm, and while there is rarely any other people walking this route I felt very safe at this time of night, even as a women by myself, as Dubai is an extremely safe place with a very low crime rate.
The hotel is just a short taxi ride to the Mall of The Emirates, Jumeirah Beach and many of the cities other tourist attractions. The hotel is perfect for business travellers as it’s in close proximity to Dubai’s commercial business district as well as Business Bay.
The pool area is lovely, surrounded by palms however it lacks lounges, for the amount of rooms (186) and possible number of guests that the hotel could cater for I feel that the seating of about 25 is highly insufficient. Unless you were down at the pool early then you missed out and unless people left then there was nowhere for you to sit/lie. The pool becomes deserted in the afternoon as the sun sets behind the hotel meaning that if you want to absorb any sun while at the pool then the morning is the optimal time for sun baking.
The breakfast was quite disappointing. There wasn ’t a huge variety to choose from but they did offer a choice of hot and cold buffet as well as fresh fruit and pastries. The fruit especially the pineapple and watermelon lacked any flavour whatsoever. After being showed to my un-set and dirty table I went to get my breakfast, upon returning I assumed the table would be ready and set, however it was unchanged, I did ask a staff member if they could kindly bring me a knife and fork, after waiting nearly 10 minutes watching my food go cold I had to get up and go and ask them again. What annoyed me about this situation was the fact that when I was taken to my table the staff member obviously saw that the table was dirty and un-set from previous guests, so I assumed that she would of taken care of it and the fact that there wasn’t many other guests that the staff had to look after, so it was just frustrating that as a guest I had to ask more than once. I think a bit more customer satisfaction and service is needed in the restaurant.
Please understand that as a hotel critic I have been very judgmental of this hotel primarily because of the other luxurious hotels that I have stayed at and experienced, however at the end of the day, this is an above average hotel, that is clean and has friendly staff and I probably would stay again and recommend to others. 10kms/ 20minutes to airport, 10kms to public beaches, close proximity to the Dubai World Trade Centre Exhibition Grounds
