Dhow and Anchor is a great place if you are looking to indulge in some traditional and typical English pub cuisine. With a choice of seating both inside and out on the terrace overlooking the grounds of Jumeirah Beach Hotel and the Burj Al Arab. Dhow and Anchor consists primarily of two main areas, the pub-style bar which has a few tables but is mainly standing room where guests can watch the plasma T.V’s that usually feature key sporting events. Then there is the restaurant which is suitable if you are looking for a more intimate or casual dining experience with the option of sitting inside or out.
I am always drawn back to the Dhow and Anchor every time I visit Dubai, it is always on my list of things to do, primarily to experience their “city renowned” fish and chips. It is well worth it and probably the best fish and chips I have ever tasted. The haddock is specially imported from Scotland.
Not only is the food of a recognised high standard but their reputation puts them well above the rest, with staff that compliment this standard, nothing is too difficult which is portrayed in their emphasis on presenting quality customer service and satisfaction.
After I had order I was served a basket of warm bread rolls with butter to start, I had ordered a fresh strawberry daiquiri and my usual fish and chips. The meal was quite quick to appear, tastefully presented on a large clean white plate, the crispy battered haddock was served on a bed of chunky chips with a separate dish of mashy peas on the side, tartare sauce and lemon which was wrapped in gauze which acted like a sieve to prevent the pips in the lemon finding their way into your food- a clever idea.
The menu is reflective of typical British pub cuisine with a selection of traditional and popular dishes such as shepherd’s pie, roast, bangers and mash and fish and chips. The menu consists of soups and appetizers that start at 45 DHS, main meals range from 80 – 180 DHS, a burger is 75/80 DHS, pork dishes 70-85 DHS, side dishes and desserts are also available to compliment and finish your meal.
Dhow and Anchor is one place where you can spend hours on the deck eating great food, relaxing with friends all while having a good time and admiring the view. Definitely a place we recommend.
