The World of Islands (USD 4 billion)Construction of a central tourist centre, in the form of coastal islands. Hotels, apartments and leisure facilities will be erected on each island. The individual islands will be laid out so as to give the shape of a world map. Each island will be of a different size and will have a theme suitable to the country it represents. This project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2008. China Town (USD 650 million)Involves the construction of 25 buildings, office buildings, a shopping centre, apartments, hotels and entertainment facilities. Dubai Pearl (USD 820 million)The Emirate of Dubai will be starting a new project at the end of 2003, entitled Dubai Pearl. Completion is scheduled for the end of 2006. Among other features, Dubai Pearl is intended to have the first opera house in the region. It is further intended to construct 2,000 homes and office units, about 1,500 hotel rooms, a modern conference centre and a technology park (Pearl Techno World). Hydropolis Hotel (USD 500 million)This is the first underwater hotel in the world, featuring a marine-research laboratory, conference rooms, a plastic-surgery clinic, balneological facilities, 220 hotel rooms and various offices covering 107,700 square metres and will be built just offshore of Dubai. Completion is expected by 2006 at a cost of US$500 million. Burj DubaiPlanned to be the tallest building in the world and with a shopping mall at 3.6m square feet is larger than the Mall of America in Minneapolis. The mall will be completed by the end of 2006. It will include 25 high-rise buildings. This is a unique central location in Dubai and competes with anything in New York and Chicago. The Burj Dubai also know in Arabic as the " tower of Dubai " is a skycrapper currently under construction, since April 15, 2005. Its exact final height remains a closely-guarded secret, but is believed to go well beyond the estimated 750 metres and is estimated to have 200 habitable floors, which would make it have almost twice as many floors as that of the Sears Tower , Chicago which currently has the highest number of habitable floors (108).
Expected to be completed in 2008, the Burj Dubai is a formidable threat to other bids to the title of world's tallest structure.
The Burj Dubai's developer Emaar Properties has suggested that the Burj Dubai will become the tallest manmade structure of any kind in history. Once completed, the peak of the tower is said to be visible from a distance of 90 km (60 miles).
The tower is designed by Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill, who also designed the Sears Tower and the Freedom Tower. 
The design of Burj Dubai is derived from the geometries of the desert flower, which is indigenous to the region, and the patterning systems embodied in Islamic architecture. The tower is composed of three elements arranged around a central core. As the tower rises from the flat desert base, setbacks occur at each element in an upward spiraling pattern, decreasing the cross section of the tower as it reaches toward the sky. At the top, the central core emerges and is sculpted to form a finishing spire. A Y-shaped floor plan maximizes views of the Persian Gulf.
The interior will be decorated by Giorgio Armani. An Armani Hotel (the first of its kind) will occupy the lower 37 floors. Floors 45 through 108 will have 700 private apartments in 64 floors (which, according to the developer, sold out within eight hours of going on sale). Corporate offices and suites will fill most of the remaining floors, except for a 123rd floor lobby and 124th floor indoor/outdoor observation deck. The spire will also hold communications equipment. An outdoor infinity-edge swimming pool will be located on the 78th floor of the tower.
It will also feature the world's fastest elevator, at 18 m/s (40 mph).
The Burj Dubai has been designed to be the center of a large-scale, mixed-use development that will include 30,000 homes, 9 hotels, 6 acres of parkland, 19 residential towers, and 12 hectare Burj Dubai Lake . The complete development will cost about US$ 8 billion. Once completed, the tower will cover a total of 2 million m² (22 million ft²) of development.
Mohamed Ali Alabbar, founder and chairman of Emaar remarked:
"This region is way behind all the regions of the world, except sub-Saharan Africa . There's no time to stop, the world is so advanced compared to us, we've been sleeping for so long."
While non-nationals cannot own real-estate in the UAE, condominiums in the Burj Dubai will work around this law by selling "lifetime" leases -- reportedly up to 99 years in length.

The Dubai Mall is a giant mall scheduled to be built in Dubai, by Emaar properties, as part of the 'New Dubai' project. This mall claims to be the largest mall in the world when completed. It will cover a total area of more than 12 million ft², with 10-15 individual smaller malls built inside it, consisting of 9 million ft² of shopping retail space (comprising of a total of more than 1000 stores).
